More like a Dolphin abuse to me

Yesterday I accompanied my sister and her kids to a dolphin and sea lion show at sunway pyramid and i was very eager to see how a dolphin show would be hosted in Malaysia and compare it to the shows at sea world Australia...

much to my may amazement a tiny enclosure was used to house the dolphin for shows and for their long stay in this hot Malaysia till February. Every day the animals are required to perform 3 shows with each show lasting about an hour and 5 shows on weekends, think about us humans if we can ever work that hard every single day.

these dolphins were captured from the java sea and were trained to entertain us humans and for a group of people to gain millions of dollars from capturing these innocent animals... i felt so sorry for them thus we planned to take some action rather than just sit and do nothing thus my sister wrote a letter emailing it to various organizations so someone with power in this country will do something pertaining to this matter. but to no avail, the show is still a top destination for families during this school holidays. Remember if there is no demand there wont be supply.

The host was ridiculously dumb!! his attire was not presentable for kids , his jokes were dumb.. he talked nonsense and not a single educational information were delivered throughout the show.... some basic information about dolphins and sea lions would be very good for the kids.... this show was all about entertaining humans, making them laugh and none about delivering information so the kids would go back home and understand the animals and how we should love and care for them..... please.... to make a show interesting it doesn't have to have jokes 24/7 ...

just like the ridiculous kursus perkahwinan i had to attend ... completing the 2 day kursus i came back with no information that was intelligent enough for me to use for my marriage... they should cut the lame jokes short and focus about how the prophet treated his wives, with honour and respect..

I missed Aussie. Love the show in Steve Irwin Zoo. I can see why you sooooo pissed of.

Developed country like australia are more keen in protecting animals unlike developing countries which just focus on satisfying individual needs...

Steve Irwin zoo and sea world hosted magnificent animal shows which kept the kids entertained and managed to include educational information.

Watch these couple of videos on why we should not visit and support such shows. I assure you its just two short educational videos on something most of us are not aware off or kept in the dark for the sake of acquiring profit in the expense of innocent wild animals. Nothing gruesome, really:

1. Marine Aqua Parks

2. Circuses and Animals in Entertainment

thank you very much Nick Josh Karean for sharing this with me. I have always considered that animals kept in captivity but given proper shelter and food is acceptable but it will actually never be the same for the animals as compared to them living in their own habitat and be free.

its sad to know that certain people are just thinking of gaining profit without actually thinking of taking care of the animals and the environment.

Maya,

I thank you and your sister for being sensitive and compassionate enough to highlight this through letters. But in Malaysia, Maya, your best bet would be to write to the Press.

This is because quite often in Malaysia "bribes" get around laws to protect animals and many times the very people who are supposed to protect them sell them out.

I spoke to the proprietor of the show, Daniel yesterday to get some comment from him. He denied the animals are working hours and said each performance is only 15 minutes.

Anyway, working in animal welfare this long, I can tell just by the silly makeshift tents that it is no way for such intelligent marine life to live. He went on and on about how he has spent so much on regulating temperature and cost him a bomb to ensure he kept them in sea water, etc.

I will be writing a letter to the Press soon after gathering all my facts. I'll post this letter on RSC's blog and in that blog I will post the email addresses of the media as well as Sunway Pyramid top management.

I hope you can please go to this blog just after the new year and please re-send your mail to all the email addresses I've posted. I assure you, that will push forward our campaign to end animal abuse. Thanks Maya!

Hi Shoba, first of all thank you for reading my blog and sharing your concern.

I wonder to what extent is daniel's knowledge about animals, dolphins in particular.

The higlights on why this show should not go on is :-

1) they were abducted from the Java Sea ( now that alone shows that you should not support such horrendous act.. transporting them to malaysia shows your support for such act )

2) technicaly they are not working hours but one show after another, kissing and performing acts for visitors at the end of every show i would assure thats more than 15 minutes.

3)the ordeal the animals have to put up with during the transportation from one place to another.

4)They’re fed dead fish, which they hate. Dolphins eat fresh fish not dead ones!

5)NO educational input to the children who make up most of the audience and the whole thing is like a circus with loud music, dancing and ridiculous jokes by the emcee of the event.

6)Dolphins in nature, dive up to 150 feet and travel massive distances in the ocean. How can they do that in the tiny tank

now put the dolphin aside and talk about the sea lions who have a similar fate as the dolphins

-- we did email this letter to the press in malaysia but there is no response...

Insensitive Sunway Pyramid. What do you expect. I live in Bandar Sunway Semenyih. Supposedly a better quality and great living environment. What I got was the opposite. A rip-off. That explains. Sunway is just a money making machine that does not give a damn about people. So what much can we expect with these poor Mammals.

i totally agree with you.my heart goes for the dolphin, they put up 4 shows on weekends. is terrible, later they have to take picture with almost all of the people that are willing to pay RM10. that time i went was the 4th shows, i noticed the dolphin was too tired. i dont think this is a good way to earn money. sunway pyramid is crazy for money.
